Tensor Fasciae Latae
Subdivision
Muscle Anatomy
Origin
Anterior part of external lip of iliac crest, outer surface of anterior superior iliac spine and deep surface of fascia lata.
Insertion
Into iliotibial tract of fascia lata at junction of proximal and middle thirds of the thigh
Function
Adduction, medial rotation and flexion of the hip, tenses the fascia lata and may assist in knee extension.
Recommended sensor placement procedure
Starting posture
Lying on the side on a table.
Electrode size
Maximum size in the direction of the muscle fibres: 10 mm.
Electrode distance
20 mm.
Electrode placement
- location
On the line from the anterior spina iliaca superior to the lateral femoral condyle in the proximal 1/6.
- orientation
In the direction of the line from the anterior spina iliaca superior to the lateral femoral condyle.
- fixation on the skin
(Double sided) tape / rings or elastic band.
- reference electrode
On / around the wrist.
Clinical test Lift and abduct the leg against manual resistance.
